My Quick Take on Each Book
Here’s how the Dr. Gundry books stack up when you actually cook from them.
The Plant Paradox (2017)
This is where it all started for my kitchen. It’s the science-y one: why Dr. Gundry thinks lectins cause trouble, plus the food lists and the basic program. If you only read one book to understand the diet, it’s this.

The Plant Paradox Cookbook (2018)
My most splattered copy. Solid everyday recipes that follow the original rules, so you’re not guessing whether a dish is compliant.

The Plant Paradox Quick and Easy (2019)
If The Plant Paradox felt like a lot, this is the friendlier on-ramp: a 30-day plan and quicker meals. Great for weeknights.

The Longevity Paradox (2019)
Less about recipes, more about the gut-and-aging angle. I read it for the big-picture habits, not for dinner ideas.

The Plant Paradox Family Cookbook (2019)
This one’s for feeding a household. One-pot and Instant Pot meals that I can serve to the whole family without making two dinners.

The Energy Paradox (2021)
Aimed at the ‘why am I always tired’ crowd. More lifestyle and theory than cooking.

Unlocking the Keto Code (2022)
If you’re toggling between keto and lectin-free, this explains how he blends the two ideas.

Gut Check (2024)
His more recent deep dive on the microbiome. A good follow-up once you’ve lived with the Plant Paradox basics for a while.
The Gut-Brain Paradox (2025)
The newest book out right now, connecting gut health to mood and brain fog.

Dr. Gundry’s Diet Evolution (2009)
His earliest book, before the lectin message took center stage. Interesting history, but I’d start with a newer title.

Feed Your Brain (2027)
Not out yet. Amazon shows it as an upcoming release, so there are no reader reviews to go on.

Which One Should You Start With?
You don’t need all the Dr. Gundry books on day one. Here’s where I’d begin:
- Brand new to lectin-free: The Plant Paradox for the why, or Quick and Easy if you want a ready-made 30-day plan.
- You just want to cook: The Plant Paradox Cookbook, or the Family Cookbook if you’re feeding a crew with an Instant Pot.
- Already lectin-free and want more: Gut Check or The Gut-Brain Paradox.
My personal pick? Start with Quick and Easy, then add the original Cookbook. Of all the Dr. Gundry books, that combo got me through my first year.
